The Montreal Impact have signed Finland international Lassi Lappalainen on loan from Bologna with options to extend his loan to the end of the 2020 MLS season, the club announced on Thursday.
Lappalainen, 20, was acquired using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM). The Impact have separate options to extend the loan until June 30, 2020, and December 31, 2020 as well.
“We want to reinforce our team for the end of the season with an offensive player, giving us more options on the left flank of attack,” said Impact head coach Rémi Garde. “He’s a player with technical diversity, who has a large volume of play at high intensity. Despite his young age, he’s shown that he can score and provide assists. We’ll place him in the best possible conditions to help him adapt to Montreal. I welcome him among us.”
Lappalainen officially signed for Bologna from HJK Helsinki in the Veikkausliiga, the top flight of Finnish football. He made 22 appearances for the club across all competitions last season, scoring six goals.
A winger who can play on either flank, Lappalainen was predominantly deployed on the left in Finland.
