MONTREAL — The Montreal Impact signed Canadian forward Evan James, Scottish defender Calum Mallace and Mexican defender Gienir Garcia on Thursday to complete their 28-man roster.

Major League Soccer mandates that all complete team rosters be announced by March 1.

James, from Mississauga, Ont., was the first pick overall of the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft. He played in all 25 games for the UNC Charlotte 49ers in 2011, including 23 as a starter.

His five goals and seven assists helped the 49ers reach the 2011 NCAA National Championship game, where they lost to the University of North Carolina Tar Heels 1-0.

Mallace, the first pick of the second round (20th overall) in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, had three goals and six assists in 16 games with Marquette University last season.

Garcia was acquired by the Impact on Jan. 17 from the Vancouver Whitecaps FC in return for the discovery rights to forward Etienne Barbara. The second overall pick of the 2012 Supplemental Draft played 10 games with Cruz Azul Hidalgo in the Mexican second division the past two years.

As per MLS and club policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
