With the club’s centenary season on the horizon, EFL Championship side Leeds United unveiled a new crest on Wednesday and the reaction on social media was swift and fierce.

After consulting with 10,000 people and what the club says was six months of “rigorous” research, Leeds United revealed the new emblem on Twitter.

The crest prominently features the “Leeds Salute” in place of the previous badge, which had been established in 1998 and featured the white rose of Yorkshire with the acronym “LUFC” underneath.

Within minutes of the tweet, the new Leeds United crest was being slammed relentlessly on social media — with an #AltLeedsBadge hashtag — and an online petition was created to stop the implementation of the new crest, which had already gained more than 46,000 signatures at the time of this writing.

Here is some of the best Twitter reaction to the controversial logo.
