Early in the second half of Saturday’s Champions League Final, Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema opened the scoring with a goal that stunned everyone on the pitch — including himself.
After picking up an easy shot, Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius attempted a routine toss to a teammate to his right only to have it blocked by the outstretched foot of a pressuring Benzema and into the wide open net behind him.

Many cringes ensued.
Karim Benzema has now scored 56 Champions League goals in his career; Raúl (71), Lionel Messi (100) and Cristiano Ronaldo (120) are the only players with more.

While Liverpool would even the score just a few minutes later, Real Madrid would ultimately win 3-1 after Karius let in another bad goal on what should have been a pretty easy save off a Gareth Bale shot.

Unlucky for Loris, it’s safe to say the soccer world won’t let him forget this dreadful game any time soon.
