MANCHESTER, England — Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne says he’ll be out for action for approximately 10 weeks after injuring his ankle and knee in Manchester City’s League Cup semifinal win over Everton on Wednesday.
The Belgium international was carried off on a stretcher, with his right leg in a brace, near the end of City’s 3-1 win that sets up a final against Liverpool in February.
De Bruyne confirmed his layoff via his Twitter account Thursday which rules him out of the Wembley finale.
"Just got back from the specialist. I’ll be out for around 10 weeks," De Bruyne said.
Patrick de Koster, who represents De Bruyne, had earlier Thursday told British broadcaster Sky Sports that he spoke to the player and that "he’s a little bit sad because he’s got a tear in the ankle and in the lateral in his knee ligaments."
De Koster added: "Kevin told me the only thing he can do is work hard and come back.
"Kevin is sad. His dream is to always be playing football. He will miss games like the League Cup final and in the Champions League, which are important."
De Bruyne was instrumental in City’s second-leg win after scoring the second on the night and crossing for striker Sergio Aguero to head the winner.
The 24-year-old De Bruyne has scored five goals in five appearances in the League Cup this season, including at least one in every round.
