MANCHESTER, England — Manchester City defender Matija Nastasic is likely to miss the opening month of the Premier League season with an ankle injury.
Nastasic was stretchered off during a pre-season match against Sunderland in Hong Kong last month and City says he will be out of action for “four to six weeks.”
English Premier League on Sportsnet: Sportsnet will air nearly 200 live matches of the 2013-14 Barclays Premier League season, continuing a 15-year network tradition of broadcasting Premier League soccer in Canada. Coverage begins on Saturday, Aug. 17. For full details, CLICK HERE
The Serbia international, who joined City from Fiorentina last year, will miss the season opener at home to Newcastle on Aug. 19 as well as matches against newly-promoted sides Cardiff and Hull.
Nastasic is likely to return for the trip to Stoke on Sep. 14 after the international break.
City coach Manuel Pellegrini is likely to pair Joleon Lescott in the centre of defence with Vincent Kompany.
