ROME — Just like last year, nothing could separate AC Milan and Lazio in the Italian Cup semifinals on Tuesday.

Milan drew 0-0 at Lazio in the first leg of their semifinal, leaving it all to play for in the return fixture at San Siro in two months.

The two sides met at the same stage last season with Milan progressing on penalties after both legs ended 0-0.

Neither side really tested the opposition goalkeeper on Tuesday and even the competition’s top scorer, Krzysztof Piatek, had a quiet night.

Piatek has netted twice for Milan in the Italian Cup since his move from Genoa. He scored six in the competition for his former club, including four on his debut.

Fiorentina hosts Atalanta on Wednesday in the first leg of the other semifinal.

For the first time in five years there will be a different winner of the Italian Cup as Juventus was eliminated from the competition by Atalanta in the quarterfinals.

Milan lost to Juventus in the final last season and in 2016, while Lazio was defeated by the Bianconeri in the 2015 and 2017 finals.
