MLS power rankings: TFC at rock bottom

Every Wednesday I will break down the balance of power in Major League Soccer with my weekly power rankings.

1. SPORTING KANSAS CITY [unchanged]

Overall record: 7-0-1 (21 points)

Streak: one loss

Had the week off to rest up for Montreal at home this weekend.

2. SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES [unchanged]

Overall record: 6-1-1 (19 points)

Streak: two wins (unbeaten in six)

Hottest team in MLS, but tough tests lie ahead vs. DC and Vancouver.

3. REAL SALT LAKE [unchanged]

Overall record: 6-1-3 (19 points)

Streak: one win (unbeaten in two)

Ended gruelling run (3 games in 8 days) with late win over TFC.

4. SEATTLE SOUNDERS [unchanged]

Overall record: 4-1-1 (13 points)

Streak: two wins (unbeaten in three)

David Estrada continues to shine.

5. DC UNITED [unchanged]

Overall record: 4-3-2 (15 points)

Streak: two wins (unbeaten in seven)

Maicon Santos can’t stop scoring. Where was this in Toronto?

6. VANCOUVER WHITECAPS [up from #7]

Overall record: 4-2-2 (14 points)

Streak: two wins

Fortunate tom win in Columbus, but sometimes better to be lucky than good.

7. HOUSTON DYNAMO [down from #6]

Overall record: 2-2-2 (8 points)

Streak: one loss (winless in four)

Defence looked a little soft and suspect in loss to DC.

8. NEW YORK RED BULLS [unchanged]

Overall record: 4-1-3 (13 points)

Streak: one win

With Thierry Henry out for a month, Kenny Cooper needs to step up.

9. FC DALLAS [unchanged]

Overall record: 3-3-3 (12 points)

Streak: two ties (winless in three)

Once they get everybody healthy, watch out!

10. COLORADO RAPIDS [up from #15]

Overall record: 4-0-4 (12 points)

Streak: one win

4-0 win over Chivas could set them on the right path again.

11. LA GALAXY [down from #10]

Overall record: 3-1-3 (10 points)

Streak: one tie (unbeaten in three)

Can’t afford to keep dropping points at home.

12. CHICAGO FIRE [down from #11]

Overall record: 2-2-2 (8 points)

Streak: one loss

Deserved a point (and not a loss) in Seattle.

13. PHILADELPHIA UNION [down from #12]

Overall record: 2-1-4 (7 points)

Streak: one loss

Solid at the back, but they have to show much more going forward.

14. MONTREAL IMPACT [up from #17]

Overall record: 2-2-5 (8 points)

Streak: one win (unbeaten in two)

With their first clean sheet out of the way, KC on the road now awaits. Good luck!

15. CHIVAS USA [down from #13]

Overall record: 3-0-5 (9 points)

Streak: two losses

This team can’t score.

16. COLUMBUS CREW [down from #15]

Overall record: 2-1-4 (7 points)

Streak: one loss (winless in four)

Maybe the league’s most inconsistent team.

17. NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION [down from #13]

Overall record: 2-0-5 (6 points)

Streak: three losses

See Chivas USA comments.

18. PORTLAND TIMBERS [down from #16]

Overall record: 2-1-5 (7 points)

Streak: one loss

Defensively shaky and uninspired in the attacking third

19. TORONTO FC [unchanged]

Overall record: 0-0-7 (0 points)

Streak: seven losses

Really, what is there to say?
