North Korea edges Finland at Women’s U-20 WC

TORONTO — Choe Yun Gyong’s goal in the 27th minute held up as the winner as North Korea edged Finland 2-1 at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup on Tuesday.

Kim So Hyang also scored for North Korea (1-0-0).

Sini Laaksonen scored Finland’s (0-0-1) lone goal in the 28th minute.

GERMANY 2 UNITED STATES 0

EDMONTON — Germany scored twice in the second half to get past the United States in Group B’s first game of the tournament.

Lena Petermann scored in the 65th minute and Theresa Panfil added another in the 90th.

CHINA 1 BRAZIL 1

EDMONTON — After a scoreless first half, China and Brazil scored a goal apiece in the second half to draw even in their first Group B game.

Brazil went up 1-0 on a goal from Byanca in the 66th minute, but Chinese substitute Zhu Zhang tied the match in the 89th minute.
