The Ottawa Fury announced on Friday the signing of Israeli forward Idan Vered from Red Star Belgrade in Serbia.

“He’s a dynamic forward, he’s quick and he can score goals,” Ottawa coach Paul Dalglish said. “We’ve kind of got away from that target forward style of play and we try to have a system with three dynamic forwards and he’s going to be a really good complement to our team.”

Vered, 27, spent the majority of his career in his home country of Israel, including Maccabi Haifa, one of the nation’s largest teams. He made 130 appearances with the Greens and won the Israeli Premier League before joining Red Star in June 2015. Vered also represented Israel at the under-21 level.

Vered has primarily played as a right winger throughout his career, scoring 21 league goals in 185 appearances for four different clubs.

Ottawa opens the 2016 North American Soccer League season on April 3 away to the New York Cosmos in a rematch of last season’s championship final. Ottawa hosts the expansion Miami FC in their home opener on April 30.
