PESCARA, Italy — Pescara has appointed former player Cristiano Bergodi as coach following Giovanni Stroppa’s resignation.
Bergodi, who has never coached in Serie A, has signed a contract until June 2013 and takes charge of his first training session on Tuesday.
The 47-year-old Bergodi spent five years at Pescara as a player after progressing through its youth ranks.
Stroppa resigned after Sunday’s 1-0 loss at Siena, which left the club one point above the relegation zone.
Stroppa took over Pescara during the off-season when Zdenek Zeman signed with Roma. Zeman guided Pescara to the Serie B title last season.
