TORONTO — New Toronto FC coach Preki has started putting his stamp on the MLS team.
Leo Percovich, who worked with Preki at Chivas USA as goalkeeper coach, joined TFC on Monday as an assistant coach.
On the way out is strength and conditioning coach Paul Winsper, who was part of previous coaches John Carver and Chris Cummins’ staff. Toronto FC said Winsper opted to not renew his contract with the team and has accepted a job with Nike in Beaverton, Ore.
Percovich, 41, is a former Uruguyan international who coached the goalkeepers at the Colorado Rapids prior to joining Chivas.
"Leo and Preki (head coach Predrag Radosavlijevic) worked well together at Chivas, and like we said from the beginning when we hired Preki, if he wanted to bring his own guy in we would let him," director of soccer Mo Johnston said in a statement.
Mike Toshack will continue as Toronto’s goalkeepers coach.
Winsper joined Toronto FC in January 2008 after spending more than 10 seasons with Newcastle United.
"We have mixed emotions about seeing Paul leave for Nike. He was a big part of this club and we will miss him tremendously, but the programs he instituted have left the club in a very good place and for that we are thankful," said Johnston.
