EINDHOVEN, Netherlands — Manchester United squandered a lead to lose 2-1 to PSV Eindhoven and had left back Luke Shaw carried off with a suspected broken right leg on an unhappy return to the Champions League on Tuesday.
Shaw required oxygen as he was being taken off on a stretcher midway through the first half, after being hurt by a tackle in PSV’s area from Hector Moreno.
Memphis Depay, a former PSV player, gave United the lead in the 41st minute of the Group B match by dribbling between two defenders and shooting through the goalkeeper’s legs.
Moreno equalized in the lengthy period of first-half stoppage time — caused by his challenge on Shaw — with a header that deflected in off Daley Blind.
Luciano Narsingh’s 57th-minute goal secured PSV’s victory.
2015 runner-up Juventus comes from behind, beats Man City 2-1
MANCHESTER, England — Juventus cast aside its domestic woes by coming from behind to beat Manchester City 2-1 in their opening Champions League match Tuesday, with Alvaro Morata scoring an 81st-minute winner for last season’s runner-up.
Winless in the opening three matches of its title defence in Italy, Juve went behind on its European debut in Group D when defender Giorgio Chiellini — under pressure from Vincent Kompany at a corner — headed into his own net in the 57th minute.
The Italians began the fightback in the 70th when Mario Mandzukic glanced home a whipped cross from Paul Pogba. Morata curled in the winner from outside the penalty area after a long ball forward was deflected into his path.
Juventus lost 3-1 to Barcelona in the 2015 final in June.

Ronaldo scores hat trick to lead Real Madrid to 4-0 win over Shakhtar
MADRID — Cristiano Ronaldo continued his impressive run by scoring a hat trick in Real Madrid’s 4-0 win over 10-man Shakhtar Donetsk in Group A of the Champions League on Tuesday.
After a five-goal performance in the Spanish league over the weekend, Ronaldo converted penalty kicks in the 55th and 63rd minutes, then scored with a header in the 81st to take his Champions League tally to 80 goals. He leads Lionel Messi by three goals atop the leading scorer’s list in the competition.
Karim Benzema opened the scoring after a goalkeeping blunder in the 30th following a difficult start for Madrid.
Shakhtar played a man down from 51st after defender Taras Stepanenko was sent off with a second yellow card for a sliding tackle on Sergio Ramos.
Real Madrid struggled early at the Santiago Bernabeu as Shakhtar tried to slow the pace to keep Madrid from pressing forward.
Benzema finally broke the deadlock when goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov couldn’t hang on to a weak centring cross inside the area, giving the striker an easy shot into the open net.
The game opened up after Stepanenko was red carded for his hard foul on Ramos, and Real Madrid quickly took advantage.
The first penalty came after Ronaldo’s shot exploded off the hands of Darijo Srna, and another hand ball, this time by Marcio Azevedo, prompted the second penalty just a few minutes later.
Both times Ronaldo fired firm shots into Pyatov’s right side, putting the game out of reach for Shakhtar.
The Portuguese striker closed the scoring with a header off a rebound from the goalkeeper on a long-range shot by Marcelo.
In Tuesday’s other Group A match, Angel Di Maria and Edinson Cavani gave Paris Saint-Germain a 2-0 win over Malmo in France.
Ronaldo entered the match level with Messi as the Champions League’s leading scorers with 77 goals each. They broke Raul’s mark of 71 last season.
Messi will have a chance to match Ronaldo on Wednesday when Barcelona plays Roma in Italy.
It was not all good news for Real Madrid, which lost striker Gareth Bale in the 28th with an apparent muscle injury. He held his left calf before being attended by doctors and left the field limping.
Real Madrid won a record 10th title two seasons ago but was eliminated by Juventus in the semifinals last year and saw rival Barcelona win the title.
Now under the command of coach Rafa Benitez, Madrid was coming off a 5-0 rout of Real Betis and a 6-0 trouncing of Espanyol, when Ronaldo scored five times to become the team’s leading scorer in the Spanish league.
Julian Draxler fires Wolfsburg to 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow
WOLFSBURG, Germany — Julian Draxler’s first goal for Wolfsburg was enough for the Bundesliga runner-up to begins its second Champions League campaign with a 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow on Tuesday.
Draxler, brought in from league rival Schalke to replace the departed Kevin de Bruyne, broke the deadlock in the Group B game five minutes before the break. The Germany midfielder stabbed home the rebound from close range after Igor Akinfeev saved his initial headed effort from Ricardo Rodriguez’ cross.
Wolfsburg dominated the match but failed to take a number of chances to put the result beyond doubt.
The German side’s first Champions League campaign also began with a win over CSKA, 3-1 on Sept. 15, 2009.
PSV Eindhoven defeated visiting Manchester United 2-1 in the other Group B game.
Di Maria scores and Ibrahimovic sets up Cavani as PSG beats Malmo 2-0
PARIS — Angel Di Maria curled in the first goal and Zlatan Ibrahimovic set up Edinson Cavani with a touch of brilliance for the other as Paris Saint-Germain opened its Champions League campaign with a 2-0 win against Malmo in Group A on Tuesday.
Di Maria, starting just his second game since joining from Manchester United, cut inside from the right in the fourth minute and caressed the ball imperiously into the left corner.
Returning to the lineup after shaking off an abdominal injury, Ibrahimovic looked short on fitness and lacked his usual assurance in front of goal.
Instead, he emphatically turned provider in the 61st, running onto a left-wing cross from Maxwell and acrobatically back-heeling the ball up to Cavani, who nodded down past goalkeeper Johan Wiland despite being off balance.
Sevilla beats penalty-prone Moenchengladbach 3-0
SEVILLE, Spain — Sevilla scored two out of its three penalties to ease to a 3-0 win against Borussia Moenchengladbach in their Champions League opener on Tuesday.
Sevilla bossed the entire Group D match at its Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium but only led 1-0 after Kevin Gameiro converted one of two penalties in the first five minutes of the second half. Both spot kicks were earned by forward Victor "Vitolo" Machin.
Gameiro made amends by forcing a third penalty, which this time Ever Banega stepped up to take in the 66th and coolly slotted into the corner.
Sevilla’s Yevhen Konoplyanka went on in the 83rd and a minute later scored Sevilla’s third, catching out goalkeeper Yann Sommer with a long strike from an extremely tight angle on the right flank.
Gaitan, Mitroglou score in 2nd half as Benfica beats Champions League newcomer Astana 2-0
LISBON, Portugal — Nicolas Gaitan and Kostas Mitroglou scored in the second half to give Benfica a 2-0 win over plucky Champions League newcomer Astana in their Group C opener Tuesday.
Gaitan got the breakthrough in the 51st, breaking into the area from the left flank and firing a low drive into the far corner. Mitroglou extended the Portuguese club’s lead 11 minutes later when he tapped in Eliseu’s cross from the left.
The goals came after a frustrating first half in which Benfica dominated the run of play but lacked the speed and imagination to pierce Astana’s packed defence.
Astana, the first team from Kazakhstan to reach the competition’s group phase, produced a competent performance and looked poised to upset Benfica when substitute Aleksei Schetkin hit the post in the 46th.
Griezmann at the double as Atletico Madrid beats Galatasaray 2-0 away
ISTANBUL — France international Antoine Griezmann scored twice in the first half to help Atletico Madrid to a 2-0 victory over Galatasaray in their Champions League opener in Group C on Tuesday.
The 2014 finalists took the lead in the 18th minute when Griezmann guided a low cross from Juanfran past Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera with a precision first-time finish.
Griezmann struck again just seven minutes later, pouncing from close range after Diego Godin rose highest to nod Koke’s cross back into the danger zone.
Galatasaray piled on the pressure in the second half but failed to find a way through, while Atletico had chances to add a third on the break.
Benfica beat Astana 2-0 in the night’s other Group C game.
