CARY, N.C. — The Montreal Impact’s bid for a second straight title is over.

Brad Rusin and Tom Heinamann scored second-half goals as the Carolina RailHawks defeated the Impact 2-0 in the second leg of a USSF Division-2 semifinal series Sunday.

With the win the RailHawks took the two-game series with an aggregate score of 2-1.

The Impact came into the second leg with a one-goal advantage in the series after a 1-0 win in Montreal on Thursday.

Montreal was unable to build on its lead in a scoreless first half, then Rusin scored in the 72nd minute to tie the series 1-1.

With time running down, Heinamann clinched the series for the home side with a goal in the 89th minute.

The Impact were hoping to repeat as champions of North America’s second-tier professional soccer league. They beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 6-3 on aggregate goals to win the 2009 United Soccer Leagues Division 1 title.
