Rangers have announced that former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has been hired as their new manager on a four-year contract.
Gerrard became a youth coach at Liverpool in the winter of 2017. He eventually took charge of the club’s U-18 side that same summer and had the job until agreeing to the Rangers gig.
The news of Gerrard’s hiring comes less than a week after Rangers were thumped 5-0 by Old Firm rivals Celtic, which clinched a seventh straight Scottish Premiership title for the Bhoys.
Steven Gerrard: “I am honoured to become the next manager of Rangers. I have enormous respect for this football club, and its history and tradition."

Steven Gerrard: “I can’t wait to start this new journey at Rangers as we look to build on the many successes that this Club has achieved.”

The Old Firm rivalry will be a little more interesting next season with Gerrard facing his former coach Brendan Rodgers on the touchline. Rodgers, who has been at Celtic for two seasons, was Liverpool manager from 2012 to 2015 and narrowly missed out on the Premier League title in 2014.
