Responding to Real Madrid’s claims it has signed midfielder Cristiano Ronaldo is becoming old hat to Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson.

”Do you think I would enter into a contract with that mob?” Ferguson said of the latest speculation that Ronaldo will move to the Bernabeu this summer. ”No chance. I would not sell them a virus.”

Real director Pedro Trapote re-ignited the feud when he told Spanish newspaper El Mundo the club has a deal in place but cannot announce it due to clauses.

“If you are asking me what we are going to do now then I would tell you that we have already signed the best player for the summer,” Trapote is quoted as saying.

“Are you talking about Cristiano?” was the reply.

“The best of the best. It is Cristiano, there is no other. It is better that we do not say anything at the moment though.”

In October Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon called a truce to the Ronaldo exchange citing he did not want make an enemy with the European Champion.

“We accept that Ronaldo decided to stay at Manchester. It is forgotten. Not only for January but, I think, for ever.”
