BLACKBURN, England — England goalkeeper Paul Robinson joined Blackburn Rovers from Tottenham on Friday night in a five-year deal worth US$7 million.
The 28-year-old Robinson is Paul Ince’s first acquisition since taking charge at Ewood Park last month.
It paves the way for American goalkeeper Brad Friedel to leave Rovers for Aston Villa after he was given permission Friday to being transfer negotiations. That deal was dependent on Ince signing a replacement.
Robinson was the first-choice England goalkeeper before a string of high-profile blunders, and at Spurs he struggled to get playing time after Juande Ramos took charge.
His future at the club dimmed even further looked bleak when Ramos last month acquired Brazil goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes from PSV Eindhoven.
