AMMAN, Jordan — Deanne Rose scored for Canada in a 1-1 draw with Germany on Monday at the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup.

Rose scored in the 21st minute to give Canada a 1-0 lead.

Germany levelled on the last play of the first half as Giulia Gwinn’s free kick beat Canadian ‘keeper Lysianne Proulx.

"It was a very tough game, but we are happy to come out of it with a draw," said Canaca coach Bev Humphries-Priestman. "We would have loved three points, but I think the reality of the physical difference between our young players and Germany’s more mature side means a draw was a good result."

Germany had the majority of scoring chances, firing 28 shots at Canada’s goal including six on target.

Canada tested German goalkeeper Leonie Doege with seven shots, two on target.

Germany and Canada are tied atop Group B with four points. Canada has the tiebreaker with four goals scored to Germany’s three.

Venezuela is next in the group with three points, while last-place Cameroon has zero. The top two teams in each group advance to the quarter-finals.

Canada finishes group-stage play Friday against Venezuela.
