Rangers drop points in draw with Hibernian

GLASGOW — Rangers missed the chance to pull clear of Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premier League when it was held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Hibernian on Saturday.

Rangers took an eighth-minute lead when Scotland striker Kris Boyd headed in a cross by Kyle Lafferty. But Hibernian equalized midway though the second half on a goal from Anthony Stokes.

The Ireland forward controlled a long ball with his chest before using his left foot to find the net behind goalkeeper Allan McGregor.

Hibernian moved level with second-place Celtic on 17 points, two fewer than defending champion Rangers. Celtic could take first place if it wins at lowly Hamilton on Sunday.

Dundee United was in fourth place after a 2-0 win at Aberdeen, two points ahead of Motherwell, which drew 3-3 at St. Mirren.

Kilmarnock beat St. Johnstone 2-1 in the other match.
