Baggies captain Greening out 6 wks

WEST BROMWICH, England — West Bromwich Albion captain Jonathan Greening will be out of action for up to six weeks with a knee injury.

The Premier League club said Tuesday that a scan showed Greening had a strained medial ligament in his left knee. He was injured during the first half of Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Burnley in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

It is the first major injury of Greening’s career and he could be sidelined until mid March.

The absence of the former Manchester United and Middlesbrough player will be a major blow to the Baggies’ hopes of avoiding relegation.

“Jonathan has been our most influential footballer in my time here,” manager Tony Mowbray said. “Him being out for any amount of time is a big blow to us.”
