MADRID — Spanish club Leganes has hired Argentine coach Mauricio Pellegrino on a one-year deal.
Pellegrino replaces Asier Garitano, who was hired by Real Sociedad last week.
Pellegrino was fired by Premier League team Southampton in March after a run of just one win in 17 games.
He had previously coached Spanish club Alaves, leading it to the Copa del Rey final in 2017. He also coached Valencia, Estudiantes and Independiente.
Leganes was promoted to Spain’s first division for the first time in 2016. It has finished 17th in each of its two seasons in the top tier.
