LEVERKUSEN, Germany — Hoffenheim striker Kevin Volland is leaving the club for Bundesliga rival Bayer Leverkusen.

The two clubs announced the transfer Friday, without giving financial details. Volland, who had another three seasons on his Hoffenheim contract, will receive a five-year deal in Leverkusen.

Volland has played for Germany but was not included in the squad for the upcoming European Championship in France.

With Leverkusen, Volland has a chance of playing in the Champions League. Hoffenheim was struggling against relegation in the just finished season.
