The Canadian Championship schedule has been set, with Toronto FC facing the Montreal Impact in the semifinals on June 1 and June 8.

The competition will start with NASL sides Ottawa Fury and FC Edmonton facing off in the preliminary round on May 11 and 18. The winner will move on to face the holders of the Voyageurs Cup, the Vancouver Whitecaps, in the other semifinal.

“The 2016 edition of the Amway Canadian Championship promises to be exciting once again this year,” said Victor Montagliani, President of Canada Soccer. “The Amway Canadian Championship is always an intense competition, so it bodes well for the future growth of the game in our country.”

Vancouver defeated Montreal in last year’s two-legged final. It was the Whitecaps’ first-ever Voyageurs Cup title and guaranteed them a berth in the 2016-17 CONCACAF Champions League group stage.

The 2016 champion will automatically qualify for the group stage of the 2017-18 CONCACAF Champions League.

The Impact has won the Voyageurs Cup nine times since 2002, more than any other team.
