Toronto FC midfielder Marco Delgado was named to the United States under-20 World Cup squad by head coach Tab Ramos on Thursday.
The 19-year-old was on Ramos’ radar and was included in the U-20 squad back in March. Delgado has also been capped at the under-17 and 18 levels for the U.S. in the past.
Delgado debuted for TFC in Wednesday’s loss against the Montreal Impact in the first leg of the Amway Canadian Championship semifinals.
The former Chivas USA player joins Matt Miazga (New York Red Bulls), Erik Palmer-Brown (Sporting Kansas City), Kellyn Acosta (FC Dallas), Jordan Allen (Real Salt Lake), Bradford Jamieson IV (L.A. Galaxy), and Tommy Thompson (San Jose Earthquakes) as the seven MLS players to make the U.S. team.
The Under-20 World Cup begins on May 30 and ends on June 20. The United States is in a group with the hosts New Zealand, Ukraine, and Myanmar.
Delgado will report on May 14 in Carson, Calif. with the rest of the squad and will depart for Australia two days later, where they will train before the World Cup begins.
