CHARLESTON, S.C. — Yura Movsisyan and Clint Mathis scored in the opening 20 minutes and Real Salt Lake held on for a 2-1 win over Toronto FC in Major League Soccer exhibition action Saturday night.

The victory gave Real Salt Lake its first Carolina Challenge Cup title. The four-team round-robin event is hosted by the Charleston Battery, and features teams from MLS and the United Soccer Leagues.

Dwayne De Rosario provided the only offence for Toronto FC, giving him goals in all three Carolina Challenge Cup games.

Movsisyan put Salt Lake up 1-0 in the sixth minute, firing a shot just inside the right post. Real extended the lead in the 20th minute when a Mathis strike from 10 metres out beat Toronto goalkeeper Stefan Frei.

De Rosario moved Toronto back to within one in the 38th minute, knocking in a loose ball after Amado Guevara’s free kick was headed off the line.

Toronto, which finished the Carolina Challenge Cup with a 2-1-0 record, opens its third MLS season Saturday on the road against the Kansas City Wizards.
