Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson says defender Rio Ferdinand could miss the rest of the season because of his nagging calf injury.
The England centre back hasn’t played since hurting himself in the warm-up prior to United’s Premier League match at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Feb. 5.
Ferguson says "we aren’t looking at this as a short-term situation … we will be lucky to get him back for some part of the season."
United’s defensive problems are mounting, with captain Nemanja Vidic, Rafael da Silva, Jonny Evans and John O’Shea sidelined. Vidic will miss Saturday’s match against Bolton with a calf problem.
United leads the Premier League and also is still in the FA Cup and the Champions League.
