AMSTERDAM — Ruud van Nistelrooy will not renew his contract as Netherlands coach Danny Blind’s assistant when it expires at the end of June and instead will join former club PSV Eindhoven to train young strikers.

The Royal Dutch Football Association announced the 39-year-old Van Nistelrooy’s departure Wednesday.

The former PSV, Manchester United and Real Madrid forward joined the Dutch coaching staff after the World Cup in 2014. After reaching the semifinals in Brazil, the team’s form slumped and it failed to qualify for this year’s European Championship in France.

No replacement for Van Nistelrooy was immediately announced.
