FRISCO, Texas — Jonathan Walters scored in the 25th minute to lead Stoke City FC of the English Premier League past FC Dallas 1-0 in an international friendly on Saturday.
The combination that led to Walters’ goal started after Kenwyne Jones tapped a pass to Erik Pieters from the top of the penalty circle.
Pieters made a touch pass that went past Dallas defender Stephen Keel and to Walters.
Walters, who was standing just inside the top of the penalty box, curled a right-footed shot into the back of the net from about 16 yards.
Dallas goalkeeper Chris Seitz prevented another goal in the 82nd minute after he stopped Cameron Jerome’s penalty kick.
Jerome was awarded the penalty kick after he was fouled by Keel, but Seitz made a diving save to his right side to prevent the goal.
