West Ham, Millwall charged for fan violence

LONDON — The Football Association has charged both West Ham and Millwall over the fan violence that marred last month’s League Cup game.

Fans clashed with each other and the police before, during and after the game at Upton Park Aug. 25. One man was stabbed, there were several invasions of the pitch and black players on each side said they were subjected to racial abuse.

The charges allege that both teams failed to ensure their supporters refrained from violent, threatening, obscene and provocative and racist behaviour as well as throwing dangerous objects onto the field.

The clubs have 14 days to respond to the charges. West Ham won the game 3-1.
