AUSTIN, Texas — Marcus Haber and Nizar Khalfan each scored for the Vancouver Whitecaps in a 2-1 victory over the Austin Aztex in USSF-Division 2 soccer on Saturday evening.
After falling behind to a Lawrence Olum strike just before halftime at House Park in Austin, the Whitecaps stunned the USSF D-2’s top club with two late goals.
Haber levelled matters with a fine header in 68th minute before substitute Khalfan struck home a superb winner in the 81st.
It was Vancouver’s first away win of the season and their first-ever victory in the Texas state capital, raising its season record to 5-2-4. The victory keeps Vancouver atop the NASL Conference standings — four points clear of Canadian rivals the Montreal Impact.
Austin, the USL Conference leaders, dropped to 7-2-3 and snapped an unbeaten run of eight games.
