SANDY, Utah — Luis Silva and Jefferson Savarino scored and Real Salt Lake beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 on Saturday night.

Real Salt Lake (2-2-1) took the lead in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time. Silva settled Brooks Lennon’s cross in the middle of the area, spun back to his left and fired a left-footed shot that redirected in off defender Jakob Nerwinski.

In the 88th minute, Damir Kreilach played a through ball up the left side to Corey Baird, who crossed it back to Savarino for the tap-in and 2-0 lead.

“It’s disappointing, you know? I thought we played really good,” said Whitecaps midfielder Efrain Juarez. “In the final third we had a lot of chances, a lot of crosses to make the difference in the first half, in the second half as well. At the end, the quality wasn’t so good in the last third of the pitch.”

Brek Shea closed the scoring for Vancouver (3-2-1) in the 92nd minute with a left-footed blast into the right corner for his third of the season.

Alphonso Davies’ long outlet found Kei Kamara, who nodded the ball towards Shea’s path for the finish.

The Whitecaps return home to BC Place for Friday for a matchup with expansion side Los Angeles Football Club.

“We are really excited. I think it’s going to be a full house,” said Juarez. “Hopefully they can enjoy, and hopefully we can give them a very good match and the victory.”
