QUEBEC — Annika Beck captured her second career title on Sunday with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Jelena Ostapenko at the Coupe Banque Nationale.
Ostapenko had beaten Beck in their two prior encounters earlier this season.
"I think there’s all the time place for some improvement, but especially to have it under pressure in the final and to be able to keep that kind of level makes me really happy," Beck, a fifth-seeded German, said.
Ostapenko started the match by winning five of the first six points and led by an early service break. Beck, ranked No. 57 in the world, wasn’t shaken and never lost serve again in the 53 minute match.
Beck, 21, upset defending champion and No. 2 seed Mirjana Lucic-Baroni in Saturday’s semifinals.
Barbora Krejcikova and An-Sophie Mestach downed Maria Irigoyen and Paula Kania, 4-6, 6-3, 12-10 to win the tournament’s doubles title earlier Sunday.
