Tennis Canada honours Peliwo, Bouchard

TORONTO — Eugenie Bouchard and Filip Peliwo are the winners of the Tennis Canada Excellence Awards in the junior categories for the second straight year.

Bouchard, from Westmount, Que., reached the No. 4 position in the International Tennis Federation rankings in 2011. She reached the Australian Open junior girls’ semifinal and later won her first pro title at the $25,000 Burnie Challenger.

Peliwo recorded his first pro win at the $15,000 Mississauga Futures last July. The Vancouver player also reached the semifinals of the Orange Bowl International Tennis Championships in Florida last December.

The wheelchair tennis athlete of the year award goes to Joel Dembe of Toronto and Gary Luker of Stoney Creek, Ont., is the winner of the most improved player award.
