LIMA, Peru — Bruno Agostinelli of Niagara Falls, Ont., propelled Canada to a 3-2 win over Peru in Davis Cup Americas’ Zone Group I playoff action Monday.

Agostinelli defeated Ivan Miranda in four sets in a match that resumed Monday after being suspended a day earlier.

Agostinelli, a Davis Cup rookie, took a two sets to one lead on Sunday (7-6, 1-6, 6-3) when the match was suspended due to darkness. With a 6-4 win in the fourth set, Agostinelli earned his first Davis Cup win and allowed the Canadian Davis Cup squad to keep its spot in Americas’ Zone Group I for 2010.

Agostinelli’s clutch win came after Peru’s Luis Horna defeated Frederic Niemeyer of Sherbrooke, Que., in four sets in Sunday’s fourth match to level the tie at 2-2.
