VANCOUVER — Defending champion Stephanie Dubois is out of the Odlum Brown VanOpen tennis tournament after the No. 5 seed dropped a 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 quarter-final decision to American Irina Falconi on Friday.
Dubois, of Laval, Que., was also eliminated from women’s doubles play on Thursday.
In other women’s quarter-final action Friday, sixth-seeded Virginie Razzano of France beat Gail Brodsky of the U.S. 7-5, 6-1. Meanwhile, Christina McHale ousted fellow American and No. 7 seed Lilia Osterloh 6-4, 6-4.
In women’s doubles semifinal play, Heidi El-Tabakh of Oakville, Ont., and partner Kai-Chen Chang of Taiwan beat Lauren Albenese of the U.S. and Noppawan Lertcheewakarn of Thailand 6-2, 6-2.
In men’s singles action, fourth-seeded Ricardas Berankis of Lithuania beat fourth-seeded Jesse Levine of the U.S. 6-3, 6-4 and Lester Cook of the U.S. beat Great Britain’s James Ward 6-2, 7-5.
In men’s doubles semifinal play, Levine and partner Ryan Harrison of the U.S. upset second-seed Colin Fleming and Ken Skupski of Great Britain 2-6, 7-6(4), 10-6.
