VIENNA — Austrian tennis player Andreas Haider-Maurer needs at least five more months to recover from a right heel injury.

Haider-Maurer hasn’t played since losing in the opening round of the Erste Bank Open in October 2015 and says he won’t return to the tour earlier than October this year for the same event in Vienna.

The Austrian, who has slipped to 170th in the ATP ranking, says "after two days of training I need a day of rest. That’s why I’ve decided now not to rush things and to return to competitive tennis in Vienna at the earliest."

Haider-Maurer picked up the injury toward the end of a season in which one semifinal and three quarterfinals helped him reach a career-high 47th.<
