Eugenie Bouchard is 21-years-old and has earned more than $4 million during her tennis career. So, what was her first splurge?
A Louis Vuitton Neverfull bag.
OK, while some sports fans may not be too interested in her choice of accessories, we were able to glean other nuggets of information about the Montreal native from the cover story of FLARE magazine’s summer issue.
1. Post-tennis career
Bouchard has given some thought to what she will be doing after tennis, saying she may become an air traffic controller.
“It’s super high-stress, and I can deal with high-pressure situations,” she told FLARE. “I think it would be super intense and exciting, so I’d study anything to get into that. Maybe when I’m 30, I’ll be that old person in university walking around making friends with 20-year-olds.”
2. Sharapova comparisons
Bouchard has been compared to Russian champion Maria Sharapova since she was 18 years old and that needs to stop, she says.
“I’m tired of it … When I was ranked 100 and it was my first year on the tour, it was a compliment,” says Bouchard. “I mean, it’s still a compliment. She’s a great champion, but I’m my own person.
“I just want to be Genie and no one else.”
3. Perfectionist
We already know Bouchard has high expectations for herself – that much is evident from her recent outbursts on the court.
But her interview with FLARE provided insight into how deeply the No. 7-ranked female player in the world hates to lose.
“I’m very hard on myself. Sometimes too hard on myself,” Bouchard said, referencing her loss to Petra Kvitova in the championship round at Wimbledon last year.
“When I lost in the Wimbledon finals, I was so sad, I cried. I had the runner-up trophy! It’s still a great accomplishment, but I was so mad. Everyone told me, ‘Genie, you had a great two weeks. Come on.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, but I didn’t win the title. I don’t deserve any of this.’
“My goal is to always win the title.”
