The TGL continues to break major ground.
In the league's first trade, the Boston Common Golf Club acquired 2019 Open champion Shane Lowry from the Bay Golf Club, the TGL announced on Monday.
In exchange for Lowry, the Bay received Boston's fourth selection to fill its open roster spot for this upcoming season and one future selection over the next three off-seasons, along with commercial considerations.
The move comes after TGL expanded from four- to five-player rosters ahead of the 2027 season.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Shane to Boston Common Golf and to make the first trade in TGL history with a player of his caliber,” said Mark Lev, the president of Boston Common Golf in a statement released by the team. “Shane is a major champion and a proven winner in team competition whose competitive spirit and personality will resonate with our fans. His energy and sense of humour will be a great fit for our locker room and the camaraderie this group already shares. His addition makes us a stronger team and reflects our ambition to bring a championship to Boston. We can’t wait to see him compete alongside this group in the season ahead.”
Lowry will now be joining his Ryder Cup teammate Rory McIlroy in Boston.
“I’m delighted to be joining Boston Common Golf. Having Rory alongside me and being part of this group makes it particularly exciting, and I’m looking forward to helping the team bring a championship to Boston,” said Lowry in the same statement.
Boston Common is coming off quite the turnaround year after finishing last during TGL's inaugural campaign but climbing all the way to first in the regular-season standings in 2026 before being knocked out in the semifinals.
