A veteran Canadian fighter is making ground in the UFC rankings.
Bantamweight Aiemann Zahabi of Laval, Que., has improved to No. 6 for fighters in his weight class, the UFC announced on Tuesday.
Zahabi surpasses Deiveson Figueiredo, who slides to seventh, after his loss to No. 2 bantamweight fighter Umar Nurmagomedov this past weekend.
The five-foot-eight, 135-pound Zahabi has not lost a fight since 2019, victorious in his last seven. His most recent bout was a three-round split decision win over Marlon Vera at UFC Vancouver in October.
Zahabi, 38, made his UFC debut in 2017. A professional fighter since 2012, he has a career MMA record of 14-2, including six knockouts.
Merab Dvalishvili retains his spot as the No. 1 bantamweight fighter, followed by Nurmagomedov, Sean O'Malley, Cory Sandhagen, and Song Yadong.
