Jalin Turner is only 29 but after suffering his fourth loss in his past five UFC appearances, the six-foot-three lightweight has decided to hang up his gloves.
Turner was submitted by Ignacio Bahamondes in the opening round of their main card matchup Saturday at UFC 313 and Turner told Sportsnet’s Aaron Bronsteter afterwards that he plans on retiring after a 13-fight UFC career.
The San Bernardino, Calif., native earned a UFC contract in 2018 with a win on Dana White’s Contender Series.
After a rough start to his UFC career, losing two of his first three, Turner rose up the rankings with five consecutive wins.
He dropped back-to-back split decisions to Mateusz Gamrot and Dan Hooker, rebounded with a knockout win over Bobby Green, but was finished by Renato Moicano last year and then suffered his first submission loss to Bahamondes.
Turner steps away with a pro record of 14-9 with a pair of Performance of the Night awards during his UFC tenure.
