Conor McGregor is experiencing some injury deja vu.
McGregor shared on Sunday that he suffered injuries to both the ACL and meniscus in his right knee in his loss to Max Holloway at UFC 329. Those are the same injuries he suffered in his left knee during his first fight against Holloway in 2013.
The 37-year-old called the coincidence "quite shocking" when he announced the injury update on social media.
McGregor was optimistic about when he might be able to return to the Octagon and said, "I returned to competition within 9 months to fight Diego Brandao back then. With today’s regenerative medicine advancements and improved training methods it is well within my realm to return by next summer."
In his much-anticipated return on July 11 the veteran Irish fighter lasted only 1:09 before the fight was forced to be stopped because of an apparent knee injury he suffered attempting an opening flying roundhouse kick.
In the week since then, McGregor said he has shown "maximum discipline" in his recovery, is walking without a crutch and doing leg extension machine work with no issue.
"I can walk without aid, and activate my quad under resistance. All very positive," he said.
He finished his statement on a positive note: "On we go, no sad stories. Thank you for the support and well wishes everyone, your health is your wealth."
