Two bouts scheduled for Saturday’s Fight Night event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas will no longer take place.
A bantamweight contest between former champion Cody Garbrandt and Miles Johns has been cancelled after Garbrandt sustained an undisclosed injury.
Johns and Garbrandt were originally scheduled to meet Oct. 12 at the Apex for this matchup before it was moved to Saturday’s event.
The news of Garbrandt’s withdrawal was first reported by Cole Shelton of BJPenn.com. Ken Hathaway of MMAJunkie reported Wednesday that due to Garbrandt no longer being on the card that the bantamweight matchup between Ricky Turcios and Bernardo Sopaj has been bumped up the bout order and will serve as the penultimate bout of the night.
The UFC later confirmed this when they updated the fight card.
It is currently unclear whether Johns will be re-added to the lineup as the organization looks for a short-notice replacement to step in for Garbrandt.
One of Johns' past opponents, Vince Morales, offered his services on social media after learning that Johns was left without an opponent this weekend. Johns holds a 2022 decision win over Morales.
Streaking flyweight Charles Johnson also showed an interest in stepping up to face Johns.
A scheduled rematch in the welterweight division between Nicolas Dalby and Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos was also scrapped, the organization announced.
“Due to injury, Nicolas Dalby has been removed from his welterweight bout with Elizeu dos Santos,” a UFC statement read. “Replacing Dalby will be UFC newcomer Zach Scroggin, who makes his debut with an undefeated record of 7-0.”
Saturday’s main event will see all-time welterweight wins leader Neil Magny look to hold his spot in the 170-pound rankings when he takes on the streaking Carlos Prates.
Also on the card, former two-weight ONE champion Reinier de Ridder will make his anticipated UFC debut against Gerald Meerschaert, plus Canadian Gillian Robertson hopes to extend her winning streak to four in a row when she faces fellow ranked flyweight Luana Pinheiro.
