The UFC 328 lineup just keeps getting better.
A welterweight matchup between Yaroslav Amosov and Joel Alvarez has been added to the upcoming card, the UFC announced early Thursday on social media.
Amosov made his UFC debut in December with a first-round submission Neil Magny. The former Bellator MMA fighter improved to 29-1 as a pro after locking up an anaconda choke and forcing a tap from Magny.
The 32-year-old from Ukraine had been widely regarded as the best the 170-pound fighter in mixed martial arts outside of the UFC before joining the organization in November.
Alvarez is coming off a decision win in his welterweight debut over longtime contender Vicente Luque. He is a former lightweight contender who moved up a division due to a difficult weight cut down to 155 pounds.
The 33-year-old from Spain is 23-3 in his pro MMA career. He’s 8-2 at the UFC level, with four consecutive wins. Alvarez was one of the most dangerous finishers at lightweight and one of the biggest athletes in the division. His only loss in the past seven years was a technical knockout to top lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan in early 2022.
A blockbuster middleweight championship fight between reigning undisputed champion Khamzat Chimaev and former titleholder Sean Strickland is scheduled to headline UFC 328.
The event is set for May 9 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Below are the matchups currently official for the card:
-- Khamzat Chimaev vs. Sean Strickland
