The classic 2020 strawweight title fight between Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczyk is set to be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame Class of 2026 in the Fight Wing.
The UFC made the announcement Saturday night during the broadcast for UFC 326.
Zhang won a five-round split decision over Jedrzejczyk in the co-main event of UFC 248 exactly six years prior to the announcement in what was at the time the final UFC event that took place in front of a crowd before the worldwide COVID lockdowns began later in the month and there was a stretch of empty-venue events.
The pair of 115-pounders combined for 366 total strikes (Jedrzejczyk 196, Zhang 170) in the 25-minute bout and Jedrzejczyk memorably sustained a swollen forehead during the contest.
It was the consensus Fight of the Year for 2020 and is the first women's bout in the Fight Wing of the Hall of Fame.
“The fight between Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Zhang Weili at UFC 248 is one of the greatest fights I’ve ever seen,” UFC president Dana White said in a press release. “This fight was incredible. You had two talented savages that wanted the strawweight title more than anything and neither one of them backed down during this fight. I knew this was going to be a badass fight and it absolutely delivered. Congrats to Joanna and Weili on a fight that will always be remembered!”
Zhang, now 35, became a two-time champion with that win over Jedrzejczyk and it kicked off a run of five consecutive wins for the star from China.
Poland’s Jedrzejczyk, now 38, announced her retirement from mixed martial arts in 2022 after she was knocked out by Zhang at UFC 275 in their rematch more than two years after their first clash.
Jedrzejczyk was previously inducted into the Hall of Fame’s Modern Wing as part of the Class of 2024 alongside Frankie Edgar and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
The 2026 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place this summer with a specific date and time to be determined.
