UFC Fight Night 239 results: Saint Preux pulls off major upset

Watch as Marcin Tybura secures a submission win over Tai Tuivasa with a rear naked choke in the first round of their main event heavyweight bout at the UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas.

The latest UFC Fight Night event took place at the APEX in Las Vegas with plenty of action to boot.

Marcin Tybura was able to return to the win column after his previous loss to interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall by taking down Tai Tuivasa, the co-main ended in controversial fashion, and the presumed fight of the night winner was a major upset.

Here’s a full list of the official results from an electric Fight Night.

MAIN CARD

Marcin Tybura defeats Tai Tuivasa via Submission at 4:08 of Round 1

Tybura came into the night as the 10th-ranked fighter in the UFC’s heavyweight division, one spot behind Tuivasa, but after an impressive performance capped off by a rear-naked choke submission in round one, expect that to change very soon.

Bryan Battle vs. Ange Loosa ends in a No Contest

After a strong start by Battle, the bout took an unfortunate turn as an inadvertent eye-poke to Loosa in round two halted all momentum. Loosa told the ring-side doctor he couldn’t see from his left eye during an official timeout, and that’s all they needed to hear to stop the fight.

Ovince Saint Preux defeats Kennedy Nzechukwu via Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

[brightcove videoID=6349101954112 playerID=JCdte3tMv height=360 width=640]

Both fighters made this a true slugfest, especially in the third round as they exchanged massive blows, and it was ultimately the veteran Saint Preux pulling off the upset, securing victory after losing three of his last four bouts.

Christian Rodriguez defeats Isaac Dulgarian via Split Decision (28-27, 27-28, 28-27)

[brightcove videoID=6349099053112 playerID=JCdte3tMv height=360 width=640]

Dulgarian came out firing in an effort to remain undefeated in the UFC, but his blistering start proved fatal as he ran out of gas, allowing Rodriguez to take advantage and earn his fourth consecutive victory, as the bout wore on.

Macy Chiasson defeats Pannie Kianzad via Submission at 3:54 of Round 1

[brightcove videoID=6349099821112 playerID=JCdte3tMv height=360 width=640]

Chiasson entered the night as the No. 10 ranked fighter on the UFC’s women’s bantamweight leaderboard, but is sure to jump up the ladder after securing a rear-naked choke victory against No. 6 Kianzad and improving to 7-3 in the UFC.

Gerald Meerschaert defeats Bryan Barberena via Submission at 4:23 of Round 2

Meerschaert was looking for a submission from the opening bell and in the second round, his persistence paid off as he was able to lock in a rear-naked choke and put Barberena to sleep, not only earning a victory but also tying Anderson Silva for the most finishes in middleweight history (11).

PRELIMINARY CARD

Mike Davis defeats Natan Levy* via Submission at 1:43 of Round 2

Levy hadn’t entered a UFC octagon in 15 months and the rust seemed evident as he continually got taken down by Davis. The American lightweight made the most of his opportunity, forcing a tap after sinking in an arm-triangle to earn his fourth consecutive win.

Chelsea Chandler* defeats Josiane Nunes via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

A contest between two top-15 ranked women’s bantamweights, and it lived up to that billing, as both fighters landed through multiple exchanges. Chandler was able to come out on top and end Nunes’ undefeated streak in the UFC (3-1).

Jafel Filho defeats Ode’ Osbourne via Submission at 4:22 of Round 1

Filho handed Osbourne his second consecutive loss by way of submission, a rear-naked choke this time, and all five of the Jamaican flyweight’s defeats in the UFC have now come due to an early stoppage.

Danny Silva* defeats Josh Culibao via Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

Despite Silva making his UFC debut in this contest he more than matched the poise of the seasoned Culibao in the featherweight bout. Both fighters were letting their fists fly but it was ultimately the newcomer’s accuracy and aggression that willed him to victory.

Jaqueline Amorin defeats Cory McKenna via Submission at 1:38 of Round 1

This fight wasted no time getting to the ground as McKenna successfully took down Amorin, but it was to her detriment, as the Brazilian countered things and set up an armbar that eventually forced a tap, earning the fourth-fastest finish in strawweight history.

Thiago Moisés defeats Mitch Ramirez via TKO at 0:15 of Round 3

Moisés countered everything Ramirez, another UFC debutant, came at him with and in the third round, he unloaded with a flurry of leg kicks that prompted the referee to put an end to the contest, earning him the 17th finish from leg kicks in UFC history.

Chad Anheliger defeats Charalampos Grigoriou via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)

[brightcove videoID=6349094380112 playerID=JCdte3tMv height=360 width=640]

The Canadian Anheliger had lost his previous two bouts coming into the night but was able to put an end to his losing ways with a convincing victory over UFC debutant Grigoriou.
