HALIFAX — Laurentian Voyageurs guard Kadre Gray has been named the national university men’s basketball player of the year for the second season in a row.

The third-year player from Toronto picked up the Mike Moser Memorial Trophy after leading the country in scoring (31 points per game). Gray also was third in the country in assists, while shooting 48.8 per cent from the field.

"Kadre’s work ethic continues to shine bright. Never satisfied with his skill set, he is always looking for ways to improve and refine all aspects of the game," Laurentian head coach Shawn Swords said in a statement.

"It’s an amazing accomplishment to do it once and now, to be named MVP twice, is truly a testament to his willingness to learn and improve."

Mambi Diawara of the Calgary Dinos, Ricardo Monge of the Concordia Stingers and Kemar Alleyne of the Saint Mary’s Huskies were the other nominees for the award.

Other award winners were:

• Montreal Carabins centre Alix Lochard as rookie of the year (Peter Mullins Trophy).

• Queen’s Gaels forward Tanner Graham for student-athlete community service (Ken Shields Award).

• Carleton Ravens guard Marcus Anderson as defensive player of the year.

• Calgary coach Dan Vanhooren as coach of the year (Stuart W. Aberdeen Memorial Trophy).
