Canada now knows the path it will need to take to advance in the World Baseball Classic.
Canada must beat Cuba in its final game of the first round to get into the quarterfinals.
The top two teams from Group A will advance to the quarters. Puerto Rico (3-0) clinched a spot after a 4-1 win over Cuba (2-1) on Monday.
Canada (1-1) plays Puerto Rico on Tuesday and Cuba on Wednesday, with both games on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
A loss to Cuba would mean the Canadians would finish no better than third in the group and be eliminated. But Canada would still win the group with two wins, as the first tiebreaker is head-to-head results.
Colombia and Panama (each 1-3) are also in Group A and have already been eliminated.
