Even though his debut season came to an end on Tuesday, star defenceman Landon DuPont's first trip through the WHL with the Everett Silvertips can only be considered a success.
The 15-year-old blue liner who was granted exceptional status by the CHL last April ended the 2024-25 season with 17 goals and 60 points in 64 regular-season games and five goals and 15 points in 10 playoff contests.
DuPont added an extra tally in Everett's 4-2 loss in Game 7 on Tuesday, which saw the Portland Winterhawks advance to their second straight Western Conference Championship.
By reaching 50 points, DuPont became the rookie defenceman to reach that milestone since Hall of Famer Scott Niedermayer did so in 1989-90. The five-foot-11 prospect finished the regular season as the WHL's top-scoring rookie and seventh among defencemen.
The Calgary native was only the second player to ever be granted exceptional status into the WHL, following Chicago Blackhawks forward Connor Bedard. He is eligible to be selected in the 2027 NHL Draft.
DuPont was selected first overall in the 2024 WHL Draft by the Silvertips, and helped them finish with the best regular-season record in the WHL.
