A Canadian led the way as the Golden State Valkyries played their first WNBA pre-season game on Tuesday night.
Laeticia Amihere of Mississauga, Ont., led all Valkyries scorers with 20 points in an 83-82 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks.
Amihere made seven of her 11 field goal attempts, including two three-pointers, and added two rebounds. She was the only Valkyries player to score in double digits.
The Valkyries claimed the 23-year-old Amihere off waivers from Atlanta in February. In 37 career games over the first two seasons of her career, Amihere averaged two points and 1.7 rebounds in a bench role. Now on a new expansion team, the former first-round pick might have a chance to break through in the WNBA.
