The Indiana Fever's run of bad luck continued this week as their star enforcer is officially down for the count.
The Indiana Fever announced Tuesday in a press release that Sophie Cunningham will be out for the remainder of the WNBA season, but should make a full recovery.
According to ESPN's Alexa Philippou, Cunningham suffered an MCL tear but should be available for the start of next season.
Sophie Cunningham left during the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Connecticut Sun after Sun's guard Bria Hartley fell into her knee. Cunningham left the court holding her right knee and did not return.
Cunningham, who was acquired in a 10-team trade in the off-season, averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 46.9 per cent from the field and 43.2 per cent from three-point range.
She played 25.2 minutes a night for Indiana.
It's the latest in a slew of injuries for the Fever, as Sydney Colson suffered a torn ACL earlier on Aug. 7 and will miss the rest of the season and guard Aari McDonald broke a bone in her right foot in the same game.
Meanwhile, superstar Caitlin Clark has been out since mid-July while nursing a groin injury, but is hoping to return before the end of the regular season.
In a corresponding move, the Fever have announced that Shey Peddy has signed a seven-day hardship contract, while Guard Kyra Lambert has been released after her seven-day contract.
